Open Space Update
At a well-attended public meeting on Tuesday 7th May, chaired by Cllr Barry Saul. The topic up for discussion was the future of the public park / public open space between Marsham Court and Dale Road (aka: the Rockfield, Mullens field et al). Some hitherto unknown information was brought to light.
We learned from Cllr. Saul the open space is maintained by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, but they do not have legal title to the land. There is currently a first registration of this land lodged with the Land Registry. It was believed this land was transferred from Redesdale Garden Estates Limited to Dublin County Council in the early 1980’s. Following an extensive search, it appears Dublin Co. Council DID NOT fully complete this transfer.
On discovering this and the fact there is a current first registration application on part of these lands, Cllr. Saul voiced his concern on what he found in his research.
As recently as 2016 an attempt was made to steal part of this public area by a third party. The piece of land beside Dale Road which previously included trees was fenced of by a third person. An attempt was then made to rezone this piece of land for private housing.
We were told the now defunct Redesdale Residence Association have the documents pertaining to the transfer of the open space to Dublin County Council. The former chairman of the association was in touch with Cllr. Saul and will make further contact on his return from holiday.
